Did you do the traditional setting of new year resolutions for 2023? I’ve done so in the past and quite frankly…it’s been a waste of my energy because then when I don’t magnificently follow through I feel guilty for not “being the best I can be” and for “letting myself/others down.” Guilt is not a positive nor productive emotion and gets a person absolutely nowhere.
So I endeavor to not set resolutions anymore, but instead take a loving and kind approach of each day doing my best. Some days it’ll be 10,000 (okay, maybe that’s a bit overly optimistic, how about 5,000) words written, the house cleaned, dinner cooked, and a family vacation booked in advance. Other days it will be banging my head on my desk because the words won’t flow then retreating to my bedroom to binge-watch “The Originals” or “Supernatural” on Netflix, dishes piled up in the sink, dog puke dried on the carpet, all this without even getting out of my jammies kinda day. And I will no longer feel guilty about that. Some would comedically call this balance. I can it… reality.
What does this mean for my writing?
Well, first off… I will not force the words out. If my spirit team wants me to write something else than what I think I should be writing, then so be it. Let’s jam! My writing method works best when it’s more “channeled” anyway.
Secondly, the above means I will be swerving from PNR later in the year. Not sure what genre this brewing story should be slotted under but there will not be any vampires or shifters so it’ll be outside that wheelhouse. Please don’t worry for I have more PNR stories coming out soon (see below) and more planned – Renegade Angel and it’s sequel will be out sometime this year; the sequel to the story I just mentioned I’d discuss below will be out sometime in 2023; I have another series planned that’s more paranormal cozy/paranormal women’s fiction (less emphasis on the romance but there will be some). It’s just my major work for 2023 will be something else.
And lastly, I may be writing less PNR but that doesn’t mean I will be reading less PNR so you can expect my monthly PNR and Fantasy Romance reading recommendations to continue.
